Gifts that Speak your Feelings

While gifts are known to be the best expressions of your feelings, choosing the most appropriate gift for the occasion becomes essential. Well, thanks to the Internet that has brought the world to your living room. It is only a matter of time before you start looking for the best gift in the websites of online gift stores and get what you wanted. The online gift stores give you a plenty of options to choose from, no matter what your budget is.

For a gift to convey your feelings well, there is a need to answer certain questions. What is the age of the person? Are you buying a gift for a boy or a girl? What is the type of the event? If you are buying a gift for someone very close, you are most likely to know his or her preferences. Choosing the right gift in that case becomes much easier. If you do not, hover your eyes on the huge collection and try to find out what is that thing that you think will best express your feelings. Like gifting flowers or flower arrangements is the most preferred choice.  This is because everyone loves flowers and are usually associated with love and care.

Remember, it should be the taste of the receiver guiding you and not yours. So, if you are still in a maze try getting some help from your friends and family or ask your store representative to guide you with the selection.

Autumn Hues For Your Home

They blow in the wind. They wait for spring. Trees have a lovely life. They never ever shrink.

“The bursting sun, the crackling leaves, See them glowing from the trees?”

All of us are bogged down by life’s incessant changes. The race of life leaves us with no scope to think. Or is it?

No. We do stop and think.

Whenever we are in trouble, we look for hope. When we are sad, we look for inspiration to feel happy.

And those beautiful moments when we derive inspiration from nature around us, turn out to be the most beautiful moments of our lives.

“Colors surround us, so vivid and bright, What colors do you see, in this beautiful sight?”

Nature. Ever changing, yet, ever consistent. Every part of nature welcomes change. Rough weathers…. Molting….. Everything! Just like how we have to do, in our lives.

Take trees for example. Spring is when they shed their old leaves and take up a new appearance. And in order to make the process smooth, they prepare themselves all through autumn. In a cycle that none of us have ever missed, the leaves gradually change color from green to red to yellow. Don’t you forget purple. Even on their way to change, trees show us how to prepare for it, giving us the beautiful season – autumn.

Happy Diwali

HAPPY DIWALI

Diwali, also spelled Divali ,  one of the major religious festivals in Hinduism, lasting for five days from the 13th day of the dark half of the lunar month Ashvina to the second day of the light half of Karttika. (The corresponding dates in the Gregorian calendar usually fall in late October and November.) The name is derived from the Sanskrit term dipavali meaning “row of lights,” which are lit on the new-moon night to bid the presence of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. In Bengal, however, the goddess Kali is worshiped, and in north India the festival also celebrates the return of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman to the city of Ayodhya, where Rama’s rule of righteousness would commence.

During the festival, small earthenware lamps filled with oil are lighted and placed in rows along the parapets of temples and houses and set adrift on rivers and streams. The fourth day—the main Diwali festival day and the beginning of the lunar month of Karttika—marks the beginning of the new year according to the Vikrama calendar. Merchants perform religious ceremonies and open new account books. It is generally a time for visiting, exchanging gifts, cleaning and decorating houses, feasting, setting off fireworks displays, and wearing new clothes. Gambling is encouraged during this season as a way of ensuring good luck for the coming year and in remembrance of the games of dice played by the Lord Shiva and Parvati on Mount Kailasa or similar contests between Radha and Krishna. Ritually, in honour of Lakshmi, the female player always wins.

Diwali is also an important festival in Jainism. For the Jain community, many of whose members belong to the merchant class, the day commemorates the passing into nirvana of Mahavira, the most recent of the Jain Tirthankaras. The lighting of the lamps is explained as a material substitute for the light of holy knowledge that was extinguished with Mahavira’s passing. Since the 18th century Diwali has been celebrated in Sikhism as the time Guru Hargobind returned to Amritsar from a supposed captivity in Gvalior—apparently an echo of Rama’s return to Ayodhya. Residents of Amritsar are said to have lighted lamps throughout the city to celebrate the occasion.

Flower Horoscope

Flower Horoscope

You probably know about your zodiac sign and its significance in your life. But do you know the flower under which you were born and its uniqueness? Flower horoscope enables you to discover more about yourself and others around you by associating a flower with a specific period in the calendar. By identifying the flower corresponding to your birth date and that of family and friends, you are able to better understand yourself and the people who matter.

Here is a list of flowers with their corresponding months:

Carnation – January

Carnations traditionally symbolize fascination, apt for the beginning of a new year and its freshness. Dianthus is its botanical name, meaning “divine flower”. In Flower Horoscope, a pink carnation signifies womanly love whereas a yellow one means disdain. If you gave a red carnation, it would imply how much your heart grieves for that person. And if that person gave you a striped carnation in return, it would mean refusal!

Iris – February

Iris has the soft shades of light blue and white. It stands for hope, knowledge and wisdom. This flower is the symbol of the Italian city of Florence, where it is used against a red backdrop. Iris also finds a place of prominence on the Quebec flag as well as being the universal representation of Scouting.

Daffodil – March

According to the Flower Horoscope, the daffodil is a spring flower symbolizing rebirth. If you give a daffodil, it conveys warmth and high regard for the recipient. Daffodils are also used for decorative purposes by the Chinese during their New Year. The Republic of Wales has further increased the daffodil’s stature by making it their national flower.

Daisy – April

Daisies are popular among gardeners; those who don’t have the “green thumb” also consider them to be “friendly.” They are easy to grow and their vibrant blooms are appreciated by flower lovers all around the world. Daisies are usually associated with simplicity and innocence.

May – Lily

Lilies represent purity and are wonderfully fragrant. Yet, somehow, they are the most commonly presented flowers at funerals. That’s because their presence symbolizes the departed soul’s restored innocence after leaving this world.

June – Rose

Perhaps the most famous flower of all, a rose stands for varying symbolisms, the commonest being love. The ancient Greeks identified a rose with their goddess of love, Aphrodite. The Christians related a rose’s petals with Christ’s wounds. The red rose also symbolizes the Virgin Mary. If you are giving this flower, take into consideration every color’s meaning. Red means love, pink shows gratitude and admiration; whereas light pink conveys sympathy. A white rose means friendship and purity, a yellow shows platonic, undying love, orange means passion, burgundy is equivalent to beauty, blue symbolizes mystery, green portrays calm and purple conveys protection, similar to parental love. A black rose is hard to get, but shows slavish devotion.

July – Larkspur

Larkspurs evoke the worry-less summer days one remembers from one’s youth. This flower associates itself with lightheartedness and frivolity.

August – Gladiolus

Named after a gladiator’s sword, these flowers are reminiscent of strength, honor and sincerity. While some species are dainty, others are spiky and tall, like a sword. That’s why they are also called “sword lilies”. Gladiolus is attractive and seems enveloped in layered tunics.

September – Aster

Aster is often used to accentuate mixed flower arrangements due to its dainty form. It is also referred to as an expression of love. So those of you wanting to express their love a little unconventionally can opt for Asters.

October – Marigold

Marigolds originally belong to Mexico and the name is a derivation from “Mary’s Gold”, the Virgin Mary’s plant. These flowers are popular for their golden colors which symbolize autumn. They show fondness and affection and can be exchanged between friends and family members.

November – Chrysanthemum

These flowers portray cheerfulness due to their vivid colors. In contrast to their bright appearance, they are associated with death and used on graves in Europe and Japan. In China, white chrysanthemums symbolize lamentation and mourning. But elsewhere, they reflect positivity, honesty and joyousness.

December – Poinsettia

Poinsettias are an important part of Christmas decorations. They symbolize success and good times. For the ancient Aztecs, they were a mark of purity. If you plan on gifting flowers during the festive season, you can never go wrong with colorful Poinsettias.

Wondering where to find these exotic flowers in India? Simply visit Floralis, the online flower shop and buy, gift and send flowers to your friends and family with just a few clicks. Be it any occasion, you can order online and have freshly delivered flowers right at your doorstep.

A Season! And Colours! And Fragrances!

No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one autumnal face.

  • John Donne

A beauty that finds expression in poetry, in music and in the coziest recesses of the mind is the beauty that is of autumn. A beauty that is celebrated by Nature in her most extravagant ways. The autumnal Nature is like a host that lays out the most exquisite, most delightful fare for Her guests and offers them the warm welcome of one who has no more pleasure than to see her guests arrive. The beauty of this season manifests itself in ways, each more charming than the other – the balmy sunsets, the inviting blue skies, the caressing breeze, and the one thing that lends Lady Autumn all her grace – the flowers!
Flowers are a delight, ever and always. Nothing like a bloom to uplift your mood, to melt your heart. And nothing like the floral palette that autumn brings to our door. It is as if Nature pampers the human heart in a warm gesture before it leads them to the threshold of the wan, unfriendly winter. The flowers sprinkle color, warmth and life on to everything in a season that keeps itself for indulging all our fancies and joys. The trees, the most prosaic of the street sides, the mundane avenues spring into life and a riot of colors that dazzle in their richness. And sometimes, they make a quiet entry at our bedside, the far corner of the living room, or the lone mantelpiece at the study – to redefine the place!
To usher autumn is to usher flowers to our world – the world that we share and the world that is our own. We do love the fine touch that flowers lend our homes. We do enjoy putting a bunch here and a cluster there to add softness to our nest. It brightens up so! But we also often pout at the briefness of the beauty. Withering flowers is as much a painful sight as fresh blooms are a delight. Yes, flowers, like all beauty, are short-lived. But yes, there are still a way or two to keep them fresh and alive for a greater time than they normally would out of their natural harbor, if we care a little more.
There are almost as many number of arrangements of flowers as there are flowers themselves. The cluster, the bunch, the bouquet, or the lone flower – the arrangement is not one to go by a rule book but by the heart. Pink and blue, red and white, lilac and yellow, crimson and orange – beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Any arrangement that suits your mood is the one that is best, at all times. But beyond that is the care you take to nurture your guests and make their stay happy. While we are at it, let us share some tips on the care of the most delicate of Nature’s pleasantries:

  • A flower loves a neat and healthy atmosphere, just like you. Do remember to clean the vase or the container in which you plan to put your blooms. A mixture of water and vinegar with salt sprinkled generously in it would help remove stains and unpleasant odor from vases.
  • Put ammonia or salt in the water in which the flowers are kept. It keeps away bacterial growth for a longer time, and helps the flowers breathe.
  • Just like you again, flowers love space and can do with some. Don’t crowd them in one vase to make it look full. There are other ways of bringing on the same effect.
  • Snip the leaves that will lie underwater in your vase. They encourage bacterial growth otherwise.
  • Put the set-up away from direct sunlight, preferably in a place which is cool and shady. Keeps your flowers fresh for a longer time without wilting.
  • Your blooms like to be nourished too. Ask your florist for floral food and according to instructions on the pack, mix it into the water.
  • Don’t let the water stink. Change it daily and refurnish the floral food.
  • In case the flowers start wilting, snip off an inch of the stems under water. Remember to do it with a sharp knife or a pair of scissors so that muscles are not torn away preventing the intake of water and food.
  • Be creative. Be innovative. Use containers other than regular vases to put your flowers in. it adds an individual touch.
  • Love your blooms. Don’t keep them there for just the beauty. Keep them because you treasure them. Do take care.

This season is incomplete without flowers. So is your home. We wish you a beautiful flowery autumn – complete with the freshness and fragrance of the choicest blossoms the season can bring. Wish you a vibrant, colorful, floral autumn.
Floral is, Floralis.
Welcome!
