Happy Independence Day!

To India, with Love

I vow to thee, my country—all earthly things above—

Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;

The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,

That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;

The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,

The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.

Freedom! Liberty! Azaadi! Mukti!

Call it by any name, the taste of independence is the same across cultures, races, languages, nations. It is like the sight of the first bright ray of the sun on a dark, overcast morning. A minion of hope, love, and life. Such is the consciousness of being on one’s own, the knowledge that - one can follow one’s own heart and mind and not depend on the dictum of others who matter not.

Such is freedom for an individual. And such is freedom for a nation. For India, freedom has been a reality that verged more on fancy.  To a nation that has time and again been suppressed, ruled and directed by countless others, freedom is indeed a touchstone that could and has changed its destiny. It has not been easy to reach that destiny, though. And the struggle, the sacrifice of an entire nation to seek that destiny makes it all the more special. 15th August, 1947 is a date every Indian knows by heart. A day that is celebrated in the country with as much love and enthusiasm as one celebrates a milestone in one’s own life. Yes, even sixty-five years after.

Today, decades away from the day we claimed our liberty, we salute the freedom fighters who lived, fought, and died for us; we salute the leaders, the heroes, the visionaries who dared to dream of a free India for the generations to come; we salute the nation for sustaining the spirit of hope and courage when all that could be seen were clouds of doubt, confusion and despair. All that we are, and all that we have today, in 2011, we owe to those times and those brave-hearts who suffered, so that we don’t.

On this day, Floralis wishes India a very happy journey down the memory lane. Let us look back and thank those who gave us the right to decide, choose and be. And all those who have let us uphold the sanctity of the freedom. We hope to carry the flag high and take it forward. We hope to make us proud just as they did us. And just like we do, we would love to see our posterity look back at us with pride.

Happy Independence Day, India!

Rakhi – The Bonding Strings of Love

Rakhi – The Bonding Strings of Love

Raksha Bandhan Special GiftRaksha Bandhan Special Gift

Life is a celebration of relationships. Every moment crystallizes into a relationship of some kind, with someone, or something. And each is special in its own way. The Relationship that binds Two Hearts, Two Souls, Two Minds; and The Relationship that reaches beyond to bind a Nation, a World, and a Consciousness. Such is the bond between a Brother and a Sister. One of the Sweetest, Deepest, and most Cherished Relationships to take shape among human beings. A bond that has at its heart a world of Trust, Love and Dependence.

To celebrate this bond of togetherness has been a tradition since times immemorial when the sentiment of Brotherhood and fraternity found expression across races, Cultures and Religions. The tying of a ‘Rakhi’ on the Brother’s wrist signifies the Care, the Concern and the Prayers of a Sister for the Security and Prosperity of The Brother. And so the day of Raksha Bandhan is as special to a Brother as it is to a Sister.

It is a day when every Brother takes count of each passing moment till his Sister claims his wrist with a Rakhi – The Sacred Thread of Love. It is a day when every Sister waits for that moment when her Brother will look up at her with Affection and Fondness when the string has been tied. It is a day when the nation looks for that special something to Gift to make the day of the Loved One Very, Very Special. And it is an occasion for which nothing seems to be the Right Gift – just that which could Complement Your Love for the Brother or the Sister to whom you mean the World.

Yes, it is difficult to find out the best. And because we realize just how important it is for you that you still do, We, at Floralis, try to help you choose the Best Gift for Your Sister, and for Your Brother. The one that will light up her face, the one that will make his eyes gleam! But it is our pleasure to see that Joy on your face first, when you see something we Offer and know immediately it is THE thing you have been looking for. We delight in delighting you, always.

Wish you a day of Warmth, Love and Care. Happy Raksha Bandhan!

Friends! A Day! And a Flower!

Friends!
Friendship Day Special Gift Items from Floralis - Flower Shop in Kolkata

A word. An expression. A smile. A touch. A memory. A thousand memories…

Friendship.

A bond. An assurance. A fragrance.

It’s hard to define these two words when you have only words to depend on. It’s like defining a slice of sunshine that melts on your shoulder on a rare winter noon; the touch of a mother’s hand; the hug of a comforting sister; the shoulder-ride on a lazy afternoon with father; a walk down the road with a loved one; the matchless pranks planned with friends. Deep within, you know what they mean, but you can’t express them like you would like to, for all the world.

Friendship is a presence that defies the boundaries of time and space –a presence that you can only be thankful for; a presence that you celebrate in your heart. There is no single day for friendship. Everyday is a day for a friend. Just like everyday is your day – a celebration for the special person that is You. But once in a while we like to celebrate everything that makes life special, meaningful. And once in a while we like to do just that and nothing else. So we have kept one special day aside for one of the most special parts of our life – and we call it Friendship Day. A day to acknowledge. To reach out. To feel good. Very, very good.

Friendship Day is a day for love. For friendship, that goes beyond love. And yes, friends are not just the ones who went with you to school, bunked classes together in college, lent a voice when the Principal had to talk to your father over phone for a not-to-be-very-proud-of reason. Or the ones who lent you all the notes the night before the finals, put up with the nagging sniffles after you had the very painful eleventh break-up, suffered the worst of your mood swings and still understood. Yes, those. But also a lot more who you may not have considered in the same bracket – all those who have been a silent, persistent presence. All those you would like to thank for making a difference. A sister. An aunt. A grandma. Your parents. Friendship is the cornerstone of every relationship that has a name – and some that hasn’t.

How nice it would be to reach out. To turn their face to us and smile back. To tell them, ‘I can’t thank you enough, but here I am. On this day, all my thoughts, all my wishes, all my prayers – for you.’ To capture a little portion of the color and fragrance that they have been and give it back. A field of daffodils. A bunch of roses. A bouquet of lilies. Pinks. Lavenders. Pale blues. Bright reds. Nothing can talk for you better than a bunch of fresh, soft, smiling flowers. A slice of the rainbow for your friend.

A world of blossoms. And lots of love. Redefine Friendship Day with the colorful flowers, and soft sweet melting chocolates of Floralis.

Wish you a Happy Friendship Day!
